Colwood, BC – The City of Colwood is launching a Business Retention & Expansion (BR + E) survey as part of a broader business development and investment attraction project. The goal is to better understand the ongoing plans and needs of local businesses and determine how business owners/managers view the community as a place to do business. The information from the survey will be used to plan future economic development activities focused on the top priorities of local businesses.

The City has retained MDB Insight, an economic development consulting firm, to assist with the project. MDB Insight will be working with staff to review the completed surveys for challenges and opportunities that the local business community is facing. Selection for the telephone survey is random and business are encouraged to participate and share their valuable insight if contacted. Businesses may be contacted between August 3rd and August 13th, 2021. The telephone survey should take no longer than 15 minutes to complete.

Selected businesses may also be contacted for a more in-depth follow-up with City staff to understand specific opportunities and challenges better and provide access to any available information and resources.

“The City is eager to support our local business owners and understand the challenges and opportunities they face,” said Mayor Rob Martin. “It’s an exciting time of growth in our community and Colwood is the place to be for new businesses.”

The project launches in July 2021, and data collection will end in August when all the results of the surveys are gathered and analyzed. A presentation and release of the final results will provide this valuable information to Council and the community.
