Located in Colwood, in one of Canada's most beautiful National Historic Sites, Royal Roads University has a history of excellence providing life changing experiences that enable professional and personal transformation.

Here in Colwood, Hatley Castle, Hatley Gardens and the Royal Roads forest are our back yard, our playground and our history. The Royal Roads University campus sprawls over 260 hectares of lush parkland, where you will find walking, hiking, and biking trails, magnificent examples of the west coast’s flora and fauna, gorgeous views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca with the majestic Olympic mountain range in the background, a stunning Japanese garden, and a castle built for James Dunsmuir, one of Vancouver Island’s most recognized coal barons.

This year, Royal Roads University is celebrating 75 years of leadership and learning: 55 years as a military college and 20 years as a public applied research university. The 24,000 alumni from 60 countries, who have participated in a Royal Roads education as military cadets or university students, tell us that the experience changed their lives. In the process of personal and professional growth, they also discovered their own capacity to positively impact the lives of others – in the workplace, in the community, within their families, and on the global stage. You can read about the world-changing work just a few featured Royal Roads alumni have undertaken.

The 75 year celebration kicks off with the rare opportunity to take part in a traditional military Sunset Ceremony that  revives the spirit of Royal Roads’ military tradition, both as a training establishment and as an educational institution. The ceremony will include elements of the Royal Military College of Canada Pipes and Drums, the Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, the United States Air Force Academy's Drum and Bugle Corps, a fly past by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, a naval guard from Maritime Forces Pacific, guns of the 5th (BC) Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery, and members of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets.
