Paid-On-Call firefighters are your neighbours, your co-workers and your friends. They are caring and dedicated individuals who are prepared to come to your aid whenever they are called.

Who can apply?

To be eligible for a Colwood Paid-On-Call Firefighter position, you must:

  • be 19 years of age

  • have completion of Grade 12 or GED

  • be Certified NFPA 1001 Level II Firefighter

  • hold a valid BC Class 5 Drivers License and provide an acceptable driver’s abstract

  • provide a clear Police Information Check for Vulnerable Sector

  • be in good health and physical condition with ability to meet required physical demands

  • participate in a minimum of 4 x 12-hour stipend night shifts per month

  • submit application form, cover letter, resume and all related firefighting certifications.

Residency in the City of Colwood is not required however preference may be given to those residing within the West shore or a reasonable radius.

Any successful applicant shortlisted holding an active position with other fire departments must receive consent from that Fire Chief to participate in Colwood’s Paid on Call Firefighter program.
