Apr 21, 2020

In response to the overwhelming popularity of the Branch Drop Off on Saturday, April 18, the City will temporarily expanding the service to accept yard waste EVERY SATURDAY starting April 25th and continuing through May.

Steps will be taken to better manage line-ups, turning movements and flow through. Please follow the directions of staff and signage, and please have ID ready to show at your window - this service is provided free of charge for Colwood residents only.

Strict physical distancing measures remain in place

  • Please attend only if you are healthy
  • Respect personal distances of 2m
  • Remain in your car while waiting to unload
  • Have ID ready to display at the window as needed - staff will not be handling it
  • Be prepared to unload your own materials: a staff member will be on-site, but for your safety and theirs, will be directed to maintain personal distance and not handle materials

Why is Colwood continuing to offer this service during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Many residents have extra time on their hands for yard work and rely on the Branch Drop Off Program to dispose of yard and garden waste.

The Provincial Health Officer encourages people to stay home but get outdoors and active. Gardening is an excellent way to do that. The City would like to support residents by continuing the Branch Drop Off Program with safety modifications for as long as possible.

New to the Branch Drop Off?

The City of Colwood provides this convenient Branch Drop Off service free of charge for Colwood residents. The program helps keep the yards in our city looking tidy and healthy. It also replaces backyard burning, which improves our air quality, protects our natural environment and creates a healthier community.

The Public Works Yard at 3300 Wishart Road is open to accept your yard waste from 8:30am to 4:00pm. This temporary enhancement provides the service every Saturday throughout May. Normally the service is offered on the first and third Saturday of each month, year-round, even if it’s a statutory holiday.

What materials are accepted?

Acceptable material includes branches (maximum diameter 4”), grass clippings and leaves. When preparing your load to bring to the yard, it would be appreciated if you could separate leaves from branches and grass clippings.

Upcoming Saturday dates

April 25 | May 2 | May 9 | May 16 | May 23 | May 30
Then we'll reassess and adjust as necessary.
