To prevent the spread of COVID-19, Colwood is cancelling its regular Council and Committee of the Whole meetings scheduled for March 16 and 23, 2020 as the City ramps up its capability for remote participation.

“We believe the public may be under-represented at this coming Monday’s meeting amid health advice to avoid public gatherings,” said Colwood Mayor Rob Martin.

“Public health is the City’s first priority in these unprecedented times,” said Colwood Mayor Rob Martin. “We are suspending public meetings to limit the spread of COVID-19 because we believe it is important to reinforce the public health recommendation to practice social distancing.”

During the next two weeks, City staff will work to improve the City’s capability for remote public participation in electronic meetings.

Colwood already live-streams all Council and Committee of the Whole meetings but has not yet tested technology that allows Council members to attend electronically while also providing effective public participation remotely.

The City plans to test remote participation at the Special Committee of the Whole meeting scheduled for March 30, 2020 with the intention of resuming public meetings remotely beginning with the April 6, 2020 Committee of the Whole, where the business from the March 16 agenda will be addressed.
