Victoria’s movie premiere of I AM ELEVEN in February 2016 won the hearts of over 650 local folks.

Children's International Summer Village (CISV) Victoria is proud to present a Westshore encore presentation on Monday, September 25th at Royal Bay High School’s Teechamitsa Theatre at 7:15 pm (Eventbrite shows 7:00 pm)

Australian filmmaker Genevieve Bailey travelled the world for six years talking with 11-year-olds to create this insightful, funny and moving documentary portrait of childhood. From an orphanage in India, to a single-parent household in inner-city Melbourne, to bathing with elephants in Thailand, I AM ELEVEN explores the lives and thoughts of children from 15 countries.

I am Eleven weaves together deeply personal and at times hilarious portraits of what it means to linger briefly at this transitional age. These ‘not quite kids, not quite teenagers’ share thoughts on a range of subjects such as love, war, global warming, music, terrorism, culture, family, happiness, religion and the future. Each of their situations allows a single glimpse into a young mind, and combine to provide a powerful insight into the future of our world.

What the press has to say about I am Eleven:

NEW YORK TIMES - 'Critic's Pick'

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS - “Entrancing documentary. Stunning.”

FINANCIAL REVIEW - “…irresistible. By turns the kids are charming, funny, goofy and absurdly serious. They say childish things that sound remarkably like common sense when set against the complexities of adult life.”

Straight up and personal with frank openness and sometimes naivety of childhood, and the sharp and surprisingly brave wisdom and knowing of adulthood this movie is a must see for anyone who is, or once was, eleven-years-old.
