Working through the night this week, the steel spans which were constructed offsite by Surespan, will be craned into place. (See this traffic advisory for closure times and detour details.)

The steel spans will be installed atop the abutment (wall structure) and pier (column structure) on each side over two nights. The following night the third and final centre span will be installed.

Once the steel bridge is in place, the bridge decking can be laid.  Then the approaches will be filled and paved from Wale Road to the bridge and beyond the bridge on the opposite side. And finally, the railings will be installed.

This new pedestrian and cycling overpass was made possible thanks to a grant of $3.6M from the Investing in Canada Infrastructure program.

Creating a safe, seamless connection is one way to encourage more residents and visitors to choose to travel in and around Colwood on foot or by bike, and to enjoy this picturesque multi-use trail that runs through the heart of Colwood as it follows the old railway line on its 55km journey from Victoria to Sooke.

This supports our community's goals related to health and well being, easing traffic congestion, attracting customers to nearby businesses, improving air quality, and reducing our climate impact.
