Tender issued for intersection upgrade at Cairndale Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway

The City of Colwood has issued an Invitation to Tender for upgrades to the intersection of Cairndale Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway, following input from the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee and final design decisions from Council earlier this spring.

A traffic light, including an advance left turn signal, will be installed to improve flow at this increasingly busy intersection. A roundabout had been considered for this location, but was ruled out based on evaluation criteria related to traffic flow, safety, and spatial constraints such as the amount of land required, elevation changes, sight lines, and entry angles.

In addition to upgraded sidewalks, curbs, retaining walls, lighting, and paving, the project includes the addition of a small "traffic button" to improve safety and traffic flow at the intersection of Cairndale Road and Mary Anne Crescent.

Construction is expected to begin later this year with the goal of completing the upgrades in the spring of 2027. The project is partially funded by development cost charges with the remainder coming from reserve funds.
