After more than two decades of dedicated service to Colwood, Fire Chief Bryan Erwin will be moving on from the City of Colwood to an exciting new opportunity. Chief Erwin has made an enduring contribution to the safety of our community and the strength of the Colwood Fire Department. His leadership, foresight and commitment to long term planning have positioned the department to continue to meet the demands of a growing community, strengthen partnerships with neighbouring jurisdictions and move confidently into its next chapter.
Change in command
We are proud to announce that Assistant Chief Scott Abrahamson will assume command of Colwood Fire Rescue as Fire Chief, with Assistant Chief Josh Pettigrew serving as Deputy Fire Chief and second in command.
Scott and Josh are respected, trusted leaders who bring deep experience, sound judgment and an unwavering commitment to their colleagues and the community. Their appointments reflect the strength of the team we have built and give us every confidence in the department’s future.
Fire Chief Scott Abrahamson
A longtime Colwood resident, Fire Chief Scott Abrahamson joined the Colwood Fire Department in early 2005 while working for the federal government. He became a full-time career firefighter in 2012 and has advanced through the ranks from Fire Prevention Officer to Assistant Fire Chief and now Fire Chief. His progression reflects his dedication to public service, his leadership and his commitment to the department and community.
Deputy Fire Chief Josh Pettigrew
Deputy Chief Josh Pettigrew joined the department as a volunteer in 2011 and became a career member in 2016. He is known for embracing challenges, finding practical solutions and supporting those around him—qualities that have made him a valued leader and trusted resource across the organization.
Please join me in congratulating Fire Chief Scott Abrahamson and Deputy Fire Chief Josh Pettigrew on their well-deserved appointments, and in thanking Chief Bryan Erwin for the lasting foundation he has built.
