Cascadia Strings
"Struggle & Freedom"

presented by Arts & Colwood Colwood Society

Enjoy this outstanding quartet of classical musicians; the Cascadia Strings are a very talented group of symphonic artists who also perform with the Victoria Symphony.

The opening piece by Arvo Pärt; 'Fratres' is mesmerizing and well recognized in its adaptation to film scores.

Dinuk Wijeratne is a Juno Award winning contemporary Canadian composer who in his own words: "sought to create for them my own kind of 'collision of old and new', where the beauty and meaning of vintage poems might inspire the kind of loops, grooves, and catchy tunes heard in Pop. The melodies are, in fact, settings of the poem texts with the words stripped away."
After intermission...

Brahms' C minor work is as rhythmically compact, note efficient, and, in its outer movements, forward-driven as anything Brahms ever wrote.

The Program:
Fratres (for String Quartet) - Arvo Pärt
Two Pop Songs on Antique Poems -
Dinuk Wijeratn
I. 'A letter from the After-life'
II. 'I will not let thee go'
