Traffic delays are expected

Improvements happening in Colwood that are expected to impact travel times. If possible, you may wish to travel outside of peak hours or choose an alternate route. 

BC Hydro is upgrading the underground duct banks in Colwood to increase electrical capacity as the West Shore continues to grow. Moving toward increased electrification as a clean home heating and vehicle power source is one way we can work to achieve our climate goals.

When:     Monday, January 10, 2022, to Monday, February 25, 2022

  • Day Shift schedule – January 10 to 21 & February 14 to 25 - 7:00am to 4:00pm
  • Night shift schedule extended to February 18 - 6:00pm to 6:00am

Where:   Metchosin Road/Sooke Road intersection

What:     Underground BC Hydro Duct Bank installation 


BC Hydro will be crossing all 5 lanes of Sooke Road at the Metchosin Road intersection to continue with the installation of the hydro duct bank through Metchosin Road to Trout Lane.Contractors will be installing Shaw utility along Sooke Road between Colwood Crescent and Belmont Road.

Lane closures will follow the allowable times between 9:00am and 3:00pm. North bound lanes will be open for the peak (am) hours and south bound lanes will be open for the peak (pm) hours

  • Day Shift Schedule - January 10 to 21 and February 14 to 25
    • Single lane alternating traffic on Metchosin Road will be maintained
       
  • Night Shift Schedule EXTENDED - January 24 to February 18 
    • Traffic wanting to use Metchosin Road during the night shift schedule will be detoured down to Veterans Memorial Parkway, over to Wishart Road and vice versa
    • Metchosin Road/Sooke Road intersection will be CLOSED TO TRAFFIC, including Emergency Services, from 6:00pm to 6:00am on Monday, February 14 to Thursday, February 17
    • No night shift scheduled for Friday night (February 18) to Saturday morning (February 19)

Traffic Control Personnel will be on site. Delays are to be expected. Motorists, cyclist and pedestrians please be aware, use extra caution and follow all signs and Traffic Control Personnel instructions.
