Property Taxes are due on the first business day after Canada Day.
Avoid the 10% penalty! If your payment is late a ten percent (10%) penalty is applied to the unpaid amount, including unclaimed Home Owner Grants.
The postal strike may delay delivery of Property Tax Notices. Find your Colwood Property Tax Information online.
Ways to pay your taxes
1) Pay online or by phone through your financial institution and get an instant confirmation
To set Colwood up as a payee on your online banking system, search for “Colwood” and select the City account. (Check this list of Colwood payee names each bank uses.)
You will need to enter the folio number (without the decimal) from your property tax notice to ensure that the payment is applied to your tax account. We encourage you to arrange payment early to avoid penalty.
2) Pay in person at your financial institution
Bring your tax notice information to the teller to pay.
3) Pay by mail (not recommended in 2025 due to the postal strike)
Write your folio (roll) number on the face of your cheque. Make cheques payable to City of Colwood and mail to 3300 Wishart Road, Colwood, BC V9C 1R1.
4) Pay in person at Colwood City Hall
City Hall reception staff are ready to assist you. You may pay by personal cheque payable to City of Colwood, Interac, Money Orders, or Bank Drafts. CREDIT CARDS ARE NOT ACCEPTED FOR PAYMENT OF PROPERTY TAXES.
There is also an after hours drop box at the front door of Colwood City Hall at 3300 Wishart Road. Be sure to write your folio (roll) number on the face of your cheque.
5) Prepayments
You may choose to pre-pay your taxes by providing the City with monthly cheques post-dated for the 1st or the 15th of each month or by pre-authorized debit payments. No interest is applied to these payments.
Taxes in the current year must be paid in full prior to the start of a new Pre-authorized Payment application.
The monthly pre-payment program includes 10 fixed amount withdrawals on the first business day of each month beginning August 1. The program begins in current calendar year and PRE PAYS taxes for the following tax cycle. There is no withdrawal in the month of June and the balance owing will be drawn on the first business day in July.
If you wish to participate in this program, please submit a copy of this Pre-authorized Debit Payment enrollment form [PDF/226KB], along with a void cheque, directly to City Hall in person, by mail, or in the 24 hour mail slot located at the entrance to City Hall. Need to update your prepayment information? Submit this Pre-authorized Payment Change Form [PDF/300KB]. Don't hesitate to contact us for additional information at 250-294-8150 or at finance@colwood.ca.
6) With your mortgage payment
Your financial institution can pay your taxes on your behalf if you have made such an arrangement through your mortgage agreement. Contact your mortgage company for further information.
7) Tax Deferment
If you are 55 or older, a surviving spouse, or a person with a disability, you may be eligible for the Province of BC Property Tax Deferment program. Deferment now has the option to “automatically renew” your application to avoid submitting an application each year, however; you still need to claim your home owner grant each year and PAY the sewer user fee to the City of Colwood (utility fees cannot be deferred), if applicable, prior to application moving forward. Contact Colwood Finance if you require additional information 250-294-8150. The Province of BC also offers a Families with Children deferment program for taxpayers who meet specific criteria. For detailed information on the programs, visit the Property Tax Deferment program website.
