Refurbishing the old court space at Dunsmuir

Outdoor multi-sport courts are one park amenity residents expressed a desire for when providing input into Colwood's Parks and Recreation Master Plan.

The first new multi-sport court is being constructed now at Dunsmuir Middle School through a partnership between the City and Sooke School District.

The agreement gives the School District and its students use of the Sports Court during weekdays from 8am to 5pm from September to June for educational and recreational purposes, leaving it available for public use during evenings, weekends and throughout the summer months.

The old asphalt has been removed and contractors have completed site preparation with new asphalt. Once the new asphalt has cured, the sport court coating will be applied to protect the asphalt and create a smooth, uniform playing surface. The project is expected to be complete and ready for use by June 30, 2023.

What other amenities does Colwood's Parks & Recreation Master Plan recommend?

The Colwood Parks & Recreation Master Plan will guide improvements to Colwood parks over the next 10+ years. Additional parks, trails and amenities are planned throughout Colwood including new developments such as those outlined in the Royal Bay South Parks Plan and Royal Beach Parks Plan which together will add over 26 hectares of park for residents to enjoy.

Recommendations in Colwood's Parks and Recreation Master Plan will be reviewed and adjusted annually to explore new opportunities and prioritize investments that reflect the needs and desires of the community. Below are some of the broad, community-wide recommendations outlined in the plan.
