Transportation is the largest source of GHG emissions in Colwood. This is a high priority area for Colwood climate action.

Electrifying Colwood's fleet vehicles and equipment

One way the City of Colwood is already working to reduce our climate impact and manage the cost of operations is by making the shift to electric vehicles as current gas-powered equipment reaches the end of its useful life.

In 2023, the City’s fleet was 24% zero emission and 7% hybrid. By 2024, 36% of the fleet is projected to be zero emission as replacement vehicles are introduced.

Background on Colwood's EV Fleet progress:

Sustainable electric vehicle charging infrastructure

There are a growing number of public electric vehicle charging stations in Colwood.

In February 2024, Colwood Council implemented a user fee at City owned EV chargers. The fee will support a sustainably funded transportation infrastructure that advances our community's transition to a low carbon economy. It is also intended to promote courteous use of chargers by detering motorists from leaving a car plugged in beyond the productive charge time. A graduated fee will encourage regular turnover. With an average charge time of 2 hours and 53 minutes, most users will only pay the hourly fee of $1.25 per hour while users who stay longer than 4 hours will pay $2.00 per hour.
