The Greater Victoria Chapter of the Climate Reality Project is hosting a combined climate awareness and Mother’s Day event at Royal Bay Secondary School, Colwood. Mayday for Mother Earth
is happening on Sunday, May 12 (Mother’s Day) from 12 -4 pm. This free family event will give participants the opportunity to learn more about the effects of climate change—and what people are doing about it. This is also an opportunity to honour and celebrate mothers everywhere, including Mother Earth!

Features of this exciting afternoon include:

  • An interactive panel session with four Westshore councillors, a climate specialist, and a Colwood youth climate activist
  • A dedicated space for viewing and discussing stimulating short documentaries
  • A wide range of hands-on workshops
  • Presentations by Guy Dauncey, noted author and leader of the West Coast Climate Action Network, and Andrew Gage, a lawyer with West Coast Environmental Law and director of the local Sue Big Oil campaign
  • Informative, interactive exhibits from non-profit organizations and community groups
  • Climate-conscious vendors with a diverse array of goods including excellent Mother’s Day gifts
  • Relevant and fun activities for kids
  • Wholesome snacks or lunch from local vendors and food trucks
  • Free childminding (ages 3 - 7) during the panel discussion
