Public garbage bins are currently closed in Colwood to limit the spread of COVID-19 through common points of contact on public surfaces. This also allows City crews to focus on critical infrastructure needs.

This is a temporary measure that is being monitored daily.

Closing the bins makes it clear they are not able to be serviced as regularly as usual. We are calling on the public for their assistance in disposing of waste responsibly as we all work together to get through this.

People are asked to take their litter away with them - a necessary practice any time a public bin is not available.

Thank you to the vast majority of people who understand this and act appropriately.

“It’s never ok to throw your trash on the ground,” said Mayor Rob Martin. “If there is no garbage bin available, you need to take litter with you, no matter what the circumstances are.”
