The City of Colwood is a finalist in the Open for Business Awards, an annual program presented by Small Business BC to recognize communities that have created a friendly environment for small businesses.

"As a fast-growing seaside community, Colwood offers an increasing number of commercial opportunities for small business owners," said Mayor Rob Martin. "Colwood looks for innovative ways to attract businesses and help them thrive while enhancing our understanding of their needs and expectations.”

Colwood is shortlisted as one of three medium sized communities of between 5,000 and 25,000 residents, along with Dawson Creek and the Township of Spallumcheen.

Vancouver Island communities are represented in all three categories.

Saanich and Campbell River are finalists in the large community category (25,000+ residents) along with Coquitlam.

For communities of fewer than 5,000 people, Ucluelet is recognized along with Harrison Hot Springs and the village of Lumby.

The winners will be announced Feb. 21 at the Small Business BC Awards Gala in Vancouver.
