The third annual New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim returns to Colwood on January 1, 2020 at noon.
Organizers are pleased to announce that the Victoria Women’s Transition House has been adopted as the event’s charity of choice.
The event previously known as the “Victoria Sports News New Year’s Day Polar Bear Swim” also has a new title sponsor in Smart Dolphins IT Solutions.
“Victoria Women’s Transition House (VWTH) is thrilled to partner with Smart Dolphins on this event and raise funds for the VWTH emergency shelter, counselling and support programs for women and children fleeing domestic violence and abuse,” said Susan Howard Development Director at VWTH. “Thank you, friends!”
“We are excited to be a part of this annual tradition and to support the Victoria Women’s Transition House that do so much in our community for those who need their services,” said President of Smart Dolphins Dave Monahan.
The event will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020 at noon at Esquimalt Lagoon.
There will be a ceremonial first dive, a traditional “Welcome” by the Songhees Nation and two contests: first in – fully immersed and best costume. Prizes from Frontrunners Footwear will be drawn shortly after the dive.
Suggested donations are $5 or “VIP All-in” for $30 which includes a commemorative shirt, a seat under the heaters and a gear check. Hot chocolate will be available to everyone.
Symbolically wash away 2019 and dive into 2020 refreshed.
“I am pleased to announce the new charity and title sponsor. Giving back this time of year is part of the holiday spirit. Operating the event requires an investment to make sure everyone has a safe and fun time,” shared Christopher Kelsall, event organizer.
Since 1974, the Victoria Women’s Transition House Society has provided shelter for women leaving abusive relationships.
