The old tree stump at the corner of Lagoon and Metchosin Roads is scheduled for removal this week.

The tree has been a familiar landmark in the community for many years, but the wood has deteriorated to the point that it has become a safety issue. Chunks of rotten wood had begun to fall off the poor old stump as squirrels burrowed in. The City could not take the chance of someone getting hit on the head. Steps were taken to confirm that the stump is not designated as a heritage tree or considered culturally significant.

This work will improve visibility at the intersection, particularly for people using the crosswalk between Sangster Elementary School and the Royal Bay Bakery.

That intersection is targeted for upgrade as nearby developments build out.

Farewell old friend.
