A resolution prepared by Colwood, Langford and View Royal will be presented to the Association of Vancouver Island Coastal Communities conference in Powell River this weekend, asking the Province to increase their portion of West Shore RCMP funding to meet the immediate and projected service needs.

A 2018 West Shore RCMP General Duty Service Assessment identified that the current 81 officer detachment needs to be bolstered by nine officers immediately and another four by 2023. The current share contributed by the Province provides 40% fewer officers per capita, equating to an approximate $720,000 shortfall, forcing some municipalities to contribute more than their equitable share.
