Burning at DND’s Rocky Point Property

The Department of National Defence, in partnership with the BC Wildfire Service, will be burning debris piles at the Rocky Point property in Metchosin.  Up to 20 piles of tree and shrub debris will be burned over approximately 10 days between March 17 and April 30. Burning will be conducted when weather and ventilation conditions are favourable. Noticeable smoke will be created during burning.  

Debris piles have been created through management of vegetation, including Scotch broom, gorse, and small conifers.  Vegetation management is necessary in order to maintain military training areas, protect habitat for species at risk, and reduce fire hazard.
