Fort Rodd Hill was full of smiles and laughter at the Colwood Seaside Festival on Sunday, September 17.

The site came alive with musicians, magicians, mascots, costumed actors, horse drawn carriages, historic tours and more.

Artist Ken Miner demonstrated the art of tin type photography, taking some incredibly beautiful photos with a unique historic feel.

The event featured live musical performances by three great local bands. Cookeilidh mixed the tunes of Ireland and Scotland with a Maritime flavour and a dash of Folk to make guests feel like they were at a modern day kitchen party with friends. The Big Weee brought their own brand of Wonky Tonk that mixed original tunes and bluegrass covers that had people dancing along. And people were singing along to the Smiley Brothers' wide range of favourites from the 60's, 70's, 80's pop, rock and country.

Throughout the event, dozens of artists painted their vantage point ‘en plein air’. The artwork was adjudicated and prizes were awarded to the first, second and third place works. Event attendees also had the opportunity to vote for their favourite painting, which determined the winner of the People's Choice Award.

The artwork will be exhibited at Coast Collective Art Gallery in October.

The Colwood Seaside Festival is a truly home-grown community event that is not to be missed. Watch for it next fall!
