Parks, Trails, and Recreation

Meeting schedule: Four (4) times a year at 2:30 PM on the first Monday of February, April, June, and October.

Purpose: to facilitate greater collaboration and exchange of ideas between Council and the public to provide advice and recommended policies on parks, trails, and recreation matters, including services, facilities and specific community interests.

Active Transportation

Meeting schedule: The Committee shall meet four (4) times a year at 6:30 PM on the third Monday of February, April, June, and October.

Purpose: to facilitate greater collaboration and exchange of ideas between Council and the public to provide advice and recommendations related to active transportation.  Active Transportation is any form of human-power transportation including walking, cycling, public transit, ridesharing, rollerblading, skateboarding, electric mobility devices including wheelchairs and mobility scooters.

Environment

Meeting schedule: The Committee shall meet four (4) times a year at 2:30 PM on the third Monday of February, April, June and October.

Purpose: to facilitate greater collaboration and exchange of ideas between Council and the public to provide advice and recommend policies on climate change, green technology, energy efficiency, urban forestry and other topics associated with environmental sustainability.

Planning and Land Use

Meeting schedule: The Committee shall meet at 6:30 PM on the first Monday of each month.

Purpose: to facilitate greater collaboration and exchange of ideas between Council and the public to provide advice and recommendations to Council with respect to a wide range of matters related to land use, development, and community planning.

Heritage Commission

Purpose: to help conserve Colwood’s local heritage, enhance our City’s identity and promote sharing of knowledge. The Commission will work to build key heritage resources and promote awareness of heritage buildings and landscapes in our community, provide advice to council on heritage matters, undertake and support heritage activities including fundraising and ensure the development of a management plan.

Waterfront Stewardship

Purpose: to provide a better understanding of waterfront stewardship considerations and provide recommendations to Council.  The outcome of this Committee will inform the decision-making process while preserving and enhancing Colwood’s coastline over the short, mid, and long term.

Board of Variance

Purpose:  to make decisions on minor development variances where compliance with the land use regulations would cause undue hardship.
