Have a great idea to enhance places in Colwood?
At the end of 2020, we started looking for great ideas to enhance places in Colwood. Up to $5,000 in grant funds were available to be split and awarded to successful applicants. All grants required a matching contribution from the community which may consist of volunteer labour, donated services, donated materials and supplies, and other funds raised. Qualifying projects fell under one of two categories: Placemaking and Community Recovery & Resiliency.
The concept of placemaking is helping to reimagine spaces around the world, transforming public spaces in unexpected ways through art, gardens, gathering areas, or other programming. We do not only connect through physical places however, which is why the community recovery & resiliency aspect was introduced—to further reinforce community actions that support residents impacted by COVID-19, as well as assist in the recovery period.
Project ideas could include:
- commuity garden enhancement
- decorative lighting display
- community art or mural
- playground enhancement
- community lending installation
- and lots more!
All projects require a matching contribution from the community which may consist of volunteer labour, donated services, donated materials and supplies, and other funds raised. Projects that qualify for this funding will fall under one of two categories Placemaking and Community Recovery & Resiliency.
