Is it possible to build an affordable, small scale, environmentally friendly sewage treatment facility?

What are the challenges and opportunities?

• Hear from Sechelt Mayor John Henderson and Paul Nash, project manager for the innovative Sechelt Water Recovery Centre, which is nearing completion. This facility shows how a wastewater treatment facility can be built in a neighbourhood, within three years, and be "noiseless, odourless and green".
   
• Participate in a panel discussion with industry and technical experts from the District of Sechelt, Urban Systems Ltd., MHPM, and Maple Reinders Inc. to learn about the process to get to a successful outcome.
   
• Light appetizers and refreshments will be provided (5:30 - 6:00 pm).

Sewage treatment has to happen in the Capital Region. There is an opportunity now to build upon the most successful models for advanced treatment and resource recovery.

Speaker Bios

Mayor John Henderson, District of Sechelt

John R. Henderson is Mayor of the District of Sechelt and has served as Chair of the Sechelt Sewage Facilities Commission and Chair of the Board and President of the Sunshine Coast Community Forest.  He previously served as a director of the B.C. Ferries as well as a numerous other companies and community organizations.  Mayor Henderson is currently an executive-in-residence to the University of British Columbia’s Sauder School of Business and a member of the Board of the Islands Coastal Economic Trust.

Paul Nash, Project Manager, Sechelt Wastewater Treatment Facility

Paul Nash is an environmental consultant based in Sechelt, BC, who specializes in water conservation. Paul holds a Master's degree in civil engineering and has many years' experience in contaminated site and groundwater remediation as well as managing utility systems (water, sewer, gas and high voltage electricity).

Don Nash, Urban Systems Ltd.

Don (no relation to Paul) is the Chair of the BCWWA Water Sustainability Committee and has more than 13 years of experience in water resources and infrastructure with a focus on water quality, integrated community and watershed management and master utility planning. Don has led project teams on a number of innovative and award winning projects, including winning the Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence, British Columbia’s highest engineering honor.

Andrew Ambrozy, Maple Reinders Inc.

Andrew is the Manager, Civil and Environmental BC for Maple Reinders Inc. based in Kelowna BC. A Professional Engineer and a CCA Gold Seal Certified Project Manager, Andrew has 25 years of municipal infrastructure engineering experience. Current projects include the construction of wastewater projects in Kelowna ($40.5M) and Kamloops ($26.8M), as well as the design build of the Sechelt wastewater treatment plant ($21.3M).
